1.Acceptance of Terms
By adding PhishFence (“the Bot”, “we”, “us”, “our”) to a Discord server, using any of its commands, interacting with any of its messages or buttons, or remaining in a Discord server where the Bot is active, you (“you”, “the user”) agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”) and our Privacy Policy.
If you are a server administrator adding the Bot to a server on behalf of a community, you agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself and accept responsibility for ensuring your community's use of the Bot complies with these Terms.
If you do not agree to any part of these Terms, you must not add the Bot to your server, and you should ask your server administrator to remove it if you do not wish to be subject to these Terms as a regular user.
2.Who We Are
PhishFence is developed and operated by its owner(s) (“the Developer”). All references to “we”, “us”, or “our” throughout these Terms refer to the Developer. The Bot is self-hosted on privately owned infrastructure and is not affiliated with Discord Inc. in any official capacity.
For all enquiries relating to these Terms, please use the contact details listed in Section 16.
3.Eligibility
To use or interact with PhishFence, you must:
- Be at least 13 years of age, or the minimum age required by the laws of your country to use online services, whichever is greater.
- Have a valid Discord account that complies with Discord's own Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
- Not be banned or otherwise restricted from using Discord.
- Not be subject to any legal restriction that would prohibit you from receiving automated moderation services.
By using the Bot, you represent and warrant that you meet all of the eligibility requirements above. If you do not, you must stop using the Bot immediately.
4.Description of Service
PhishFence is a scam and threat detection Bot for Discord. Its core purpose is to help server administrators and moderators protect their communities from harmful content including, but not limited to, phishing links, malware links, scam messages, and fraudulent solicitations.
| Service | Description |
|---|---|
| Automated Scam Detection | Scans messages for text patterns, URLs, and image hashes associated with known scam activity. |
| URL Safety Checking | Submits URLs found in messages to the Google Safe Browsing API to identify known malicious links. |
| Image Hash Matching | Computes perceptual fingerprints of image attachments and compares them against a database of known scam images. |
| Automated Moderation | Applies automated moderation actions (message deletion, mute, kick, or ban) based on detection severity and server configuration. |
| Cross-Server Threat Sharing | Maintains threat profiles for flagged accounts and alerts servers when a known high-risk user joins. |
| Moderator Alerts | Sends structured detection alerts to a designated server log channel to enable human review and manual action. |
| Server Configuration | Allows server administrators to customise per-threat-type actions and other settings through the PhishFence dashboard. |
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, with or without notice.
5.Server Administrator Responsibilities
By adding PhishFence to a Discord server, the server administrator (“admin”) accepts the following responsibilities:
5.1 Informed Consent
Admins are responsible for ensuring that the members of their server are reasonably informed that an automated moderation Bot is active and may process their messages.
5.2 Appropriate Configuration
Admins are responsible for reviewing and adjusting settings via the PhishFence dashboard to ensure they are appropriate for their community.
5.3 Compliance with Discord's Policies
Admins must ensure their use of PhishFence complies with Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and Developer Policy.
5.4 Moderator Oversight
Automated moderation is not infallible. Admins are responsible for ensuring that human moderators periodically review the Bot's alert log channel and take corrective action where automated decisions were incorrect. PhishFence is a tool to assist moderation — it does not replace human judgement.
5.5 No Misuse
Admins must not deliberately configure the Bot to target specific individuals outside of its intended threat detection purpose, or use its features to harass, discriminate against, or unfairly penalise users.
6.Acceptable Use
You may use PhishFence for its intended purpose: the detection and mitigation of scam and phishing activity within Discord servers. Permitted uses include:
- Adding the Bot to a Discord server you own or administer.
- Using slash commands provided by the Bot to configure server settings or review detection data.
- Clicking moderation action buttons provided in alert messages to take manual moderation actions.
- Requesting access to or deletion of your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
- Contacting us with feedback, bug reports, or support requests.
7.Prohibited Use
You must not use PhishFence in any way that:
7.1 Violates Laws or Regulations
- Breaches any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
- Infringes the rights (including privacy rights and intellectual property rights) of any individual or organisation.
7.2 Abuses or Circumvents the Bot
- Deliberately sends content designed to trigger false positives and cause incorrect moderation actions against other users.
- Attempts to reverse-engineer, decompile, or probe the Bot's detection logic for the purpose of evading it.
- Submits content intended to exploit or crash the Bot or its underlying infrastructure.
- Attempts to gain unauthorised access to the Bot's database, hosting environment, or administrative functions.
7.3 Targets or Harasses Users
- Uses the Bot's moderation capabilities to unfairly target, harass, or discriminate against any individual or group.
- Deliberately misuses the Bot's automated moderation actions as a tool of harassment.
7.4 Misrepresents the Bot
- Impersonates PhishFence or its operators in any context.
- Claims to represent or speak on behalf of PhishFence without explicit written authorisation.
7.5 Interferes with Operations
- Takes any action that places unreasonable load on the Bot or its infrastructure.
- Interferes with the proper operation of the Bot in any server.
Violation of any of these prohibitions may result in immediate removal of the Bot from your server, a permanent ban from using the service, and — where applicable — referral to Discord's Trust & Safety team.
8.Automated Moderation and Actions
8.1 Nature of Automated Decisions
PhishFence uses rule-based detection systems to identify potentially harmful content. When content is flagged, the Bot may automatically delete the message and apply a moderation action to the sender. These decisions are made based on pattern matching, URL threat data, image fingerprinting, and the user's historical incident record.
8.2 Escalation System
By default, the Bot applies moderation actions according to an escalation ladder:
| Detections in 24 Hours | Default Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Message deleted only |
| 2 | User muted (timeout) |
| 3 | User kicked from the server |
| 4 or more | User banned from the server |
Server administrators may override these defaults on a per-threat-type basis through the PhishFence dashboard.
8.3 No Guarantee of Accuracy
Automated detection systems are not perfect. PhishFence may on occasion produce false positives or false negatives. We make no guarantee that the Bot will detect all harmful content or that all actions taken will be correct.
8.4 Challenging an Action
If you believe a moderation action was taken against you incorrectly:
- Contact the moderators of the server where the action occurred.
- If you believe your PhishFence threat profile contains inaccurate data, submit a data correction request as described in our Privacy Policy (Section 10).
8.5 Cross-Server Risk Alerts
Users who accumulate a High or Critical suspicion level may be flagged in an alert when they join other servers using PhishFence. This alert is informational only — no automated action is taken at the point of joining.
9.Privacy and Data
Your use of PhishFence is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. The Privacy Policy describes in full what data is collected and why, how data is stored and retained, and what rights you have over your data.
You can view the Privacy Policy at phishfence.app/privacy. By accepting these Terms, you also acknowledge and accept the Privacy Policy.
10.Intellectual Property
All code, logic, detection patterns, and associated materials that make up PhishFence are the intellectual property of the Developer. These Terms do not grant you any licence to copy, modify, distribute, sell, or otherwise exploit any part of the Bot's software or detection systems.
The name “PhishFence” and any associated branding are the property of the Developer. You may not use them in any way that implies endorsement, affiliation, or official representation without prior written consent.
11.Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
11.1 Service Provided “As Is”
PhishFence is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Bot will be available at all times, that detection systems will identify all harmful content, or that any automated moderation action will be appropriate in every circumstance.
11.2 Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer shall not be liable for:
- Any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Bot.
- Any loss of data, reputation, or opportunity resulting from automated moderation actions.
- Any harm caused by third-party services (including Discord or Google) used in connection with the Bot.
- Any damage caused by security breaches outside of our reasonable control.
11.3 No Liability for Server Decisions
The Developer is not responsible for moderation decisions made by server administrators or moderators, including decisions made in response to, or in spite of, alerts generated by PhishFence.
12.Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Developer from and against any claims, losses, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Bot or its features, any moderation action you take or fail to take as a server administrator, or any claim by a third party arising from your use of the Bot.
13.Termination
13.1 Termination by You
You may stop using PhishFence at any time by removing the Bot from your server. Removal automatically triggers deletion of your server's configuration data. You may also submit a personal data deletion request as described in the Privacy Policy.
13.2 Termination by Us
We reserve the right to remove PhishFence from any server or revoke access to the service for any user or server at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including violation of these Terms, violation of Discord's Terms of Service, or operational or legal necessity.
13.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the service ends immediately. Sections 9, 10, 11, 12, and 15 survive termination.
14.Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document and announce the change in the Bot's support server where reasonably practicable. Your continued use of the Bot after updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
15.Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Developer is based, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
